Limited company requirements for signage, stationery and promotional material
Are you aware of the limited company requirements for signage, stationery and promotional material? Here’s what you need to know.
You are required to display a sign showing your company name at your registered company address and wherever your business operates. However, if you’re running a business from home, you do not need to display a sign there.
So, if for example, you had 3 shops at different locations, you would need to display a sign at each of the shops. Plus signage at any offices you operate from.
The sign needs to be easy to read and visible at all times, not just when you’re open.
Stationery and promotional material
Your company’s name is required to be on all company documents, publicity and letters.
For business letters, order forms and websites, you need to show:
- the company’s registered number
- its registered office address
- where the company is registered (England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland)
- the fact that it’s a limited company (usually by spelling out the company’s full name including ‘Limited’ or ‘Ltd’)
If you decide to include directors’ names, then you are required to list all of the Directors names.
If you choose to show the company’s share capital (how much the shares were worth when you issued them), you must say how much is ‘paid up’ (owned by shareholders).
There are different rules for what you need to include on invoices. Your invoices must have the following information on them:
- a unique identification number
- your company name, address and contact information
- the company name and address of the customer you’re invoicing
- a clear description of what you’re charging for
- the date the goods or service were provided (supply date)
- the date of the invoice
- the amount(s) being charged
- VAT amount if applicable
- the total amount owed
For limited companies, you must include the full company name as it appears on the certificate of incorporation. As before, if you decide to put names of your directors on your invoices, you must include the names of all directors.
